How to Make Beaded Safety Pins

You can add a pretty design to your jacket or backpack when you decorate safety pins with differently colored beads.  Make single pins to give away to friends, or line up a number of pins to make a block design.

Supplies

Colored beads
Safety pins (medium or small size)

To make a single pin, just open the pin, slide on the beads you want, and lock it closed.  For a block design, use a paper and pens to map out a small, square picture you want.  Draw a grid (or use graph paper) and color in the blocks with different colors.  Try drawing a tree, a campfire, a moon, or a sailboat.  When you're finished, open a number of safety pins.  Each pin represents one column (up and down row) of the grid.  Load on beads that match the colors on your grid, taking care to always start from the same end of the grid, so all your pins line up in the same direction.  Pin them onto your backpack!
