How to Make a Yarn Octopus

Supplies
a skein of yarn
a pair of old socks (balled) or a Styrofoam ball
scissors

Cut off ten 6-inch pieces of yarn to use as ties.  Then cut 70-100 2-foot pieces of yarn (depending on how large you want your octopus to be).  Line up all of your pieces so that their ends are together.  If needed, trim off the end to even them up.  Take one of your short pieces and tie the 2-foot lengths together, about two inches from the end.

Insert your balled sock or Styrofoam ball right under this tied end.  This forms the head of your octopus.  Arrange the yarn so that it covers the ball completely on all sides.  Use another tie to close the yarn under the head (forming a neck).

Separate the remaining yarn into eight even sections.  Braid each one and tie off the end with one of your short strips.  Your octopus makes a great gift!
